How you can help…
Since 1997, the Race 4 Research has raised more than $1.6 million for cancer research and patient services, thanks to thousands of racers and generous sponsors and donors! The 5K run/walk is a fundraising event for Cancer League of Colorado, Inc., an all-volunteer organization dedicated to funding research in Colorado.
On December 1, 2022, our lives forever changed. Leyton was 11 years old at the time he was diagnosed with a non-germinomatous germ cell tumor near the pineal gland in his brain. Within days he had brain surgery…
Sondra’s “story” began in December 1996, when her daughter, Michele Plachy-Rubin, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumor. At the time, Michele was a young wife, mother, and kindergarten teacher in the Denver Public Schools.
Almost 500 runners and walkers participated in the 25th Annual Cancer League of Colorado Race for Research presented by the University of Colorado Cancer Center and UCHealth.
Even though she’s only a few days shy of 13 years old, Race for Research participant Gabrielle Palmer has a long history of helping people with cancer.
Looking at me now, unless you are one of my close friends or family members, you would never have believed I was told by a doctor that I had widespread blood cancer and needed immediate treatment or I would die.
If I told you I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 31, just three years ago, you’d probably be surprised. You’d think, you’re too young or how did you catch it?
The Race 4 Research was first organized and run in 1997 by the friends and family of Michele Plachy-Rubin, a young mother and kindergarten teacher who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1996. Michele walked the first race with her 1-year-old son but tragically lost her battle with cancer in 1998. Cancer League of Colorado has continued the race in her memory. Since 1997, the Race 4 Research has raised more than $1.6 million for cancer research.
Cancer touches everyone somehow, whether it’s you, a loved one, a friend or a co-worker who has been diagnosed. That’s why Cancer League of Colorado, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to advancing cancer research so that the disease can be cured or contained. Cancer League has been on this mission since it was founded in 1969.
It now raises more than $1 million each year. Because Cancer League has no paid staff or offices, it is able to give all its donations and fundraising proceeds to the cause.
Join us in the fight!
